Cu-Zn Alloy

Alloy name: Cu-Zn
Diagram No.: 158
Type of diagram: TTT
Chemical composition in weight %: 41.6% Zn, balance is Cu
Alloy group: Copper-based alloys
Note: Treatment: Specimens were held within 5 deg. at 830C (1526F) for 2 min in a vertical furnace containing an atmosphere of nitrogen, 3% hydrogen, and zinc vapor, then quenched into 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide at 0C. The quenched structure was entirely metastable beta-prime phase with a grain size of 1-2 mm. Subsequent heat-treatment in the range 150-350C (302-662F) was in a nitrate-nitrite bath, and above 350C (662F) in a lead bath controlled to within 3C.
