Note: Comparison of the TTT diagrams for alloys 945X (this work) and 718 [12]. To generate the time-temperature-transformation diagram of Incoloy alloy 945X, alloy specimens were solution heat treated for 1 hour at 1040 C (above š solvus temperature) and water quenched for full dissolution of precipitate phases. After solution heat-treating the alloy samples, the test specimens were subjected to isothermal treatment in the temperature range of 650 C to 900 C at 50oC intervals, for 10 minutes to 120 hours and water quenched to hold the constituents and precipitation phases in solution.
One of the objectives of this study was to clarify if delta phase is present in the alloy in its Ďas receivedí condition, as well as after long time thermal exposure at high temperatures. The results observed in the SEM verify the presence of the phase after aging the material. No evidence of delta phase was observed in its Ďas-receivedí condition, as the standard heat treatment avoids the delta phase C-curve. The TTT diagram generated has shown that the lower Nb content in the candidate oil and gas alloy has slowed down the formation of š phase at elevated aging temperatures compared to the TTT diagram of alloy 718 produced by previous researchers using the same technique [12]. As expected, the nose of š-phase C-curve in 945X shifted to the left compared to 945 and to the right compared to alloy 718, whereas gamma' and gamma'' C-curves seem to be very similar between the alloys. Comparison of the TTT diagrams for alloys 945X and 718 is shown in Figure.
