As we can see from the TTT diagram, NiSn3 will fully transform at 260C (470F) in less than one second, while at 215C (419F) it will take about 10s seconds (i.e., about 28 h). Samples were aged (using two-step aging) to produce large intermetallic growth and then tested for solderability at these temperatures (5 s dip). The 215C samples have large nonwetted areas, and the wetted areas display a lot of surface irregularities. Wetting is much better for 260C samples, but again there are a lot of surface irregularities (bumps).
