Note: Fig. shows CCT diagram constructed from dilatometry curves and microstructure analysis above. As shown in the figure, even cooling rate is as slow as O.5 C/s , bainite structure is easy to get in this new type of steel, due to addition of boron and nickel which increase stability and harden-ability of austenite. The bainite structure exhibits high hardness but its toughness is much lower than that of pearlite. In order to ensure impact toughness, bainite structures must be avoided. Therefore, slow cooling is needed after hot-rolling.
