Note: The time-temperature-transformation and phase diagram for continuous cooling is shown in Fig. During cooling from the austenitizing temperature vanadium carbonitride of the type MX is precipitated in the austenite and in greater quantities in the pre-eutectoid ferrite. At lower temperatures and slower cooling rates borders of MX eutectoid. M2X precipitates (Mo2C) and pearlite are formed. In the transformation-free range M23C6 occurs at very slow cooling rates.
