Note: The steel 20CrMoV13-5, which is resistant to high-pressure hydrogen, is employed, just as the steel 17CrMoV10, for high pressure synthesis plants in the chemical industry. By the addition of elements which form special carbides, the formation of pearlite during the gama-alpha transformation is suppressed. Cementite occurs only in the bainite range or during aging of the martensite. In addition, the carbides and carbonitrides MX, M23C6, M2X and M7C3 are found.
Fig. shows the time-temperature-transformation and phase diagram of this steel for continuous cooling. It is seen that MX is precipitated already before the start of the transformation in the austenite and to a greater extent in the pre-eutectoid ferrite. Subsequently an MX eutectoid is formed. At slower cooling rates and lower temperatures an M23C6 eutectoid is also formed. In the transformation-free range between the ferrite-carbide and bainite regions the carbides M7C3, and M2X are also precipitated in small amounts.
