Note: The transformation and precipitation behaviour of the steel X20CrMoWV-12-1 is very similar to that of the steel X20CrMoV12-1. The addition of tungsten has no noticeable effect on the positions of the regions of existence of the various phases.
Time-temperature-transformation and phase diagrams for continuous cooling and for isothermal transformation are given in Diagram No. 5125 and Diagram No. 5126. If the carbon content is at the upper limit of the analysis range, very slow cooling of this steel leads to the precipitation of M6C, after the completion of the ferrite-carbide transformation. In the case of isothermal transformation, M23C6 precipitation on the austenite grain boundaries preceeds the ferrite-carbide formation, as in the case of continuous cooling. Especially at high temperatures, M23C6 occurs, as well as M2X, in the form of borders.
